TapeTalk by BlackApples - Privacy

TapeTalk does not connect to the internet by itself. The one exception is "Check for updates"
(click the TapeTalk badge, then CHECK FOR UPDATES): when you press it, and only then, TapeTalk
asks BlackApples' website what the latest version is. It sends nothing but that request - no
Machine ID, no code, nothing about you or your recordings - and downloads nothing: if there is
a newer version, the download page opens in your browser. TapeTalk sends no data anywhere else,
has no accounts, and collects no statistics. It never opens a microphone.

What it keeps, and only on your computer:

- Your recordings: %LOCALAPPDATA%\BlackApples\TapeTalk\Takes (the last 30, as they were
made) and whatever you save, where you save it.
- Your settings and your code: %APPDATA%\BlackApples\TapeTalk.settings.
- Files written for drag-and-drop: %LOCALAPPDATA%\BlackApples\TapeTalk\Drag (cleared after
  an hour).
- Color files you add: %LOCALAPPDATA%\BlackApples\TapeTalk\Colors.

What it listens to and reads, and only on your computer:

- "The tape was already rolling" (REC SETUP, on unless you turn it off): while TapeTalk is
open and waiting, it listens to what your PC plays - never a microphone - and keeps only the
last few seconds of it, in memory, so REC can start the take with them. Nothing is written
to disk until you press REC, and nothing is kept once it is overwritten. After half an hour
without the mouse or keyboard it stops listening.
- "Name the songs from what is playing" (REC SETUP, on unless you turn it off): TapeTalk reads
what Windows' media controls show - the title, artist, album and cover a music app or a
browser gives Windows - to name and tag your recordings. It stays on your computer.

The Machine ID shown on the licence screen is made from a Windows identifier for your
computer, hashed so it tells nothing about you. You send it to BlackApples yourself, by
whatever means you choose, to get a code; TapeTalk never sends it.

Uninstalling TapeTalk removes the program. Your recordings, settings and color files are left
for you to keep or delete.
